- Write a Proposal Letter, after looking at many templates of Proposal Letters I have decided that the best structure is if I follow these steps;
- Begin by stating your project's working title and basic information.
- Explain why you want to make this film and why it could be important and in their best interest to help.
- Explain how you plan to use humour, colour, surrealism, pace, dialogue and music.
-
List the equipment and permits you expect to need, as well as when,
where and how long you plan to shoot, and how big a team you need.
- Tell your readers about the team you have assembled so far.
-Explain what sort of distribution you plan to find for your film when it is finished.
-Detail your funding strategy.
Dear Sir/Madam,
Hello, i am writing to tell you about the film i am currently writing called Dark Sacrament, it is a short 2:30 - 3:00 thriller set in a church late at night, this film is primarily meant for anybody looking for a good scare from about the age of 16 and onwards. The film itself is about an elderly priest who deep down carries a heavy burden and possesses the soul of a demon that feeds on the sins of the unwary, this beast bursts out of priests body as an average man confesses a grave sin he had made after his wife had cheated on him and he killed the man that had seduced her, the film is meant to have a subconscious meaning where the demon is the mans anger and rage that after he let it out for even a moment consumed him which ultimately leads to his death. This concept as a film to my knowledge is unheard of but it could be related to other well known movies such as 'The Shining' or 'The Exorcist' because both these films show a inhuman evil rising up inside them but neither take it to the extreme where the evil is given a physical form. I wish to explore the audience of this thriller by making the film more deep rooted and subliminal than the common 'jump scares' seen in other movies and i hope to show the ferocity of what a sin could bring which is end up destroying the sinner if not dealt with.
Dark Sacrament will take place in an old church at the dead of night, it will have the cleashe haunted look and feel about it and the organ and church sounds often used in this setting, using just a few candles alight so the room isn't completely blackened we can create a very low key feel to it which will just create tension and bring on feelings of the unknowing. For this film we will need a camera which we currently can borrow which is a Canon Z1 and Canon Z5, we also have access to some tripods and a dolly for the camera, we would also need permission by the church to let us record there but due to the story of this film if we can not use their location we could stage it in a number of other locations, also the costumes of both actors used which are the Priest and the Man who sinned which could be recycled from left over shirts and jackets people already have, and finally the use of some editing software to edit the film and add visual effects. The current team which is working on this project consists of Connor Sadler; Writer, Cinematographer and Director.
Once finished this film will be entered into a number of film festivals local to Chelmsford, Cambridge and Southend as well as a few international festivals, the film will also be available on youtube and other video distributing websites in an attempt to generate hype for it, a lot of the funding will be through student schemes or donations, this can also be reduced by using actors from a student scheme who would do it without paid or friends and family that would act for free, also by borrowing a camera, costumes and props from charity shops or second hand shops. If you help fund this project we intend to use £30 on props and costumes and £250 for any other expenses that we may encounter e.g travel and location hiring, we intend to approach the Canterbury Film Festival for some support to help produce the film after it is finished and use some student schemes to help get any other funding that we require.
